Local Attractions

The cottages are close to Robin Hood's Bay which was famous as a smugglers' cove in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. A few miles further north is Whitby a whaling station in the eighteenth century and home to Captain James Cook of HMS Endeavour. He left Whitby in 1755 to join the Royal Navy, and in 1768 set off on his famous voyage of discovery to Australia. Whitby is an active sea side town with plenty of restaurants and things to do including walking through the old town and up to the abbey over looking the harbour.

The cottages are within the North York Moors National Park, one of fifteen national parks in the UK. Within its boundaries is magnificent scenery and the famous village of Goathland (known as Aidensfield in Heartbeat - the popular TV series). Running through the North York Moors is the North York Moors Railway starting in Pickering and finishing at Grosmont.

The cottages are ideally located for exploring the countryside and coastline, visiting local market towns (Helmsley, Kirby Moorside and Pickering), and historic landmarks (Whitby Abbey, Castle Howard and Rievaulx Abbey). The famous city of York with its Roman and Viking heritage, fabulous shops and magnificent Minster is only 55 miles away down the A64.
